And 2008 Becomes History

Gradually 2008 which began on a fresh note with hopes, expectations, optimism and many more and gradually the journey through the months and finally down to the very last of the month and day in it. Some things which memories are to be forever cherised and nurtured, some are never wanted to be remembered,a few others one wants to happen again and again. However,i've made friends whose friendship i so much appreciated, met people whose life gave me more hope for the future and i believe the dreams are not far-fetched any longer, silly, naughty, terrible are some events and whichever way,it has been a good year so far. I don't want to forget babysitter,My Rain Experience (some of my blogs),some of the nagging at home,tongue-lash of some friends and idiots, keeping of malice with those who needed it,receipt of good, interesting mails which have made me more useful to myself and responsible to others. Nasty it will be of me if i forget what happened a couple of days back (29th Dec) where so...

Celebrating In The Yuletide

The christmas aura is flowing everywhere with everyone waiting patiently for the time to tick away so that we could leave the " in advance " at the end of Merry Xmas & Happy New Year. A point of caution is inevitable here as i implore each and every one to spend wisely during this yuletide, so that what happened to a couple some few years back won't come your way. However, i'll tell you cos your curiosity has increased, that year, the xmas came at a time when we muslims were observing our fast. The couple spent a lot for the yuletide and after the celebrations, the wife went to the husband for money saying there was nothing left in the house. The couple combed everywhere in the house and when there was virtually nothing, the husband concluded thus " we had better join the muslims in their ramadan fast ". You know why i guess? Anyway, wishing you all "A Happy Xmas & Merry New Year".

Just some days back when the popular Nigerian activist Gani Fawehinmi rejected a National Honour, the one known for white hair and beards who wouldn't have them cut,Nobel Laureate,Wole Soyinka has also rejected a prize money of National Merit Award whose plaque he said he'll hold. The rejection has it grounds on his disappointment in the Supreme court verdict of validation of the April '07 polls.According to him,his decision to accept the award initially was that "the NNMA is an honour bequeathed by one's own peers and not a political award, unlike the National Honours, which has turned into another annual jamboree of government". Noting he has nothing personal against the President,he declared "I would stop calling him a Presidential Incumbent and address him as President Yar'Adua, but he still remains the beneficiary of stolen goods, while the principal robber is former President Olusegun Obasanjo. The Supreme Court did not only hurl away the only op...

Your local dialect is the best.

Without doubt on any one's mind,we accept the fact that the official language is English, but our mother tongue still is the best. Oh! i'm happy i'm a Nigeria despite the oddities and not only that, the fact of being a Yoruba man. There so many things you'll want to say but since you can't express it in English, you keep mum and if worst comes, you'd adopt what is known as yoruba-english and for those who're not yoruba, like ibo, them go talk am for pidgin. Remember wetin Lagbaja talk, ' e kaabo na welcome, wetin be ekuule', sometimes ago after secondary school, myself and some friends started a tutorial centre and the guy taking English one day asked from the students what is ' osuka' in English and different answers came in which apparently were wrong. Funny enough, till today ' me sef never sabi am for english' who knows should please tell me. However, there are so many things in English which i think are adaptation from Yoruba Language, an ...

Bush's Attack

At a news conference in Baghdad on Monday 15 2008, an Iraqi journalist Muntadir al-Zaidi 28, threw his shoes at US President George W Bush mincing some words in Arabic meaning 'dog'. The act in their tradition denotes disgust and as Bush sef dey kampe, he just dodged the shoes http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7782774.stm . Definitely someone like this will not go unpunished, the guy was sid to have suffered broken arms, ribs and internal bleeding after the incident and he was said to have done that for widows and orphans. Bush was reported to have 'no hard feelings' towards the journalist. The journalist will be tried according to the local law but under what charges? but the head of Iraq's journalists' union has asked the government for clemency towards the journalist. The following day witnessed rally in Iraq as people were haiing Zaidi as a hero and calling for his release http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/7783815.stm . Funny enough offers t...

Nigeria & The Immunity Clause It is well known to everyone that immunity is enjoyed by people in power. Immunity was provided for in the 1999 constitution of the Ferderal Republic of Nigeria, and it keeps President,Governors and their Deputies as well as other public office holders from being prosecuted while in office. The debate is being taken but funny enough, the president himself Yar'adua is in support in his attempt at combating corruption. The removal of the immunity clause from the constitution however, denotes these office holders can be tried even while in office. To some end,it makes sense and in the other way round,it could get complicated as any office holder could be tried for any thing at all. Do you think it's removal will work out? I think Gani has a say in this as well............... Gani rejects honour Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN) has rejected the honour of OFR which was published on Fri,Dec12,2008 that the Fedreral Govt has honoured him with the honour. He t...

At long last, precisely 20months after the April 2007 presidential elections, the authenticity of the polls have been upheld by the supreme court with Yar'adua and Goodluck duly elected aa president and vice-president respectively of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The judgement came last week at the supreme court of Nigeria throwing away the arguments put forward by Buhari (Rtd) and Atiku (Former Vice-president). Now the nation hopes and believes president Yardy will be able to fulfill his campaign promises getting free of the electoral troubles.
