And 2008 Becomes History

Gradually 2008 which began on a fresh note with hopes, expectations, optimism and many more and gradually the journey through the months and finally down to the very last of the month and day in it. Some things which memories are to be forever cherised and nurtured, some are never wanted to be remembered,a few others one wants to happen again and again. However,i've made friends whose friendship i so much appreciated, met people whose life gave me more hope for the future and i believe the dreams are not far-fetched any longer, silly, naughty, terrible are some events and whichever way,it has been a good year so far. I don't want to forget babysitter,My Rain Experience (some of my blogs),some of the nagging at home,tongue-lash of some friends and idiots, keeping of malice with those who needed it,receipt of good, interesting mails which have made me more useful to myself and responsible to others. Nasty it will be of me if i forget what happened a couple of days back (29th Dec) where so...

Celebrating In The Yuletide

The christmas aura is flowing everywhere with everyone waiting patiently for the time to tick away so that we could leave the " in advance " at the end of Merry Xmas & Happy New Year. A point of caution is inevitable here as i implore each and every one to spend wisely during this yuletide, so that what happened to a couple some few years back won't come your way. However, i'll tell you cos your curiosity has increased, that year, the xmas came at a time when we muslims were observing our fast. The couple spent a lot for the yuletide and after the celebrations, the wife went to the husband for money saying there was nothing left in the house. The couple combed everywhere in the house and when there was virtually nothing, the husband concluded thus " we had better join the muslims in their ramadan fast ". You know why i guess? Anyway, wishing you all "A Happy Xmas & Merry New Year".

Just some days back when the popular Nigerian activist Gani Fawehinmi rejected a National Honour, the one known for white hair and beards who wouldn't have them cut,Nobel Laureate,Wole Soyinka has also rejected a prize money of National Merit Award whose plaque he said he'll hold. The rejection has it grounds on his disappointment in the Supreme court verdict of validation of the April '07 polls.According to him,his decision to accept the award initially was that "the NNMA is an honour bequeathed by one's own peers and not a political award, unlike the National Honours, which has turned into another annual jamboree of government". Noting he has nothing personal against the President,he declared "I would stop calling him a Presidential Incumbent and address him as President Yar'Adua, but he still remains the beneficiary of stolen goods, while the principal robber is former President Olusegun Obasanjo. The Supreme Court did not only hurl away the only op...

Your local dialect is the best.

Without doubt on any one's mind,we accept the fact that the official language is English, but our mother tongue still is the best. Oh! i'm happy i'm a Nigeria despite the oddities and not only that, the fact of being a Yoruba man. There so many things you'll want to say but since you can't express it in English, you keep mum and if worst comes, you'd adopt what is known as yoruba-english and for those who're not yoruba, like ibo, them go talk am for pidgin. Remember wetin Lagbaja talk, ' e kaabo na welcome, wetin be ekuule', sometimes ago after secondary school, myself and some friends started a tutorial centre and the guy taking English one day asked from the students what is ' osuka' in English and different answers came in which apparently were wrong. Funny enough, till today ' me sef never sabi am for english' who knows should please tell me. However, there are so many things in English which i think are adaptation from Yoruba Language, an ...

Bush's Attack

At a news conference in Baghdad on Monday 15 2008, an Iraqi journalist Muntadir al-Zaidi 28, threw his shoes at US President George W Bush mincing some words in Arabic meaning 'dog'. The act in their tradition denotes disgust and as Bush sef dey kampe, he just dodged the shoes http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7782774.stm . Definitely someone like this will not go unpunished, the guy was sid to have suffered broken arms, ribs and internal bleeding after the incident and he was said to have done that for widows and orphans. Bush was reported to have 'no hard feelings' towards the journalist. The journalist will be tried according to the local law but under what charges? but the head of Iraq's journalists' union has asked the government for clemency towards the journalist. The following day witnessed rally in Iraq as people were haiing Zaidi as a hero and calling for his release http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/7783815.stm . Funny enough offers t...

Nigeria & The Immunity Clause It is well known to everyone that immunity is enjoyed by people in power. Immunity was provided for in the 1999 constitution of the Ferderal Republic of Nigeria, and it keeps President,Governors and their Deputies as well as other public office holders from being prosecuted while in office. The debate is being taken but funny enough, the president himself Yar'adua is in support in his attempt at combating corruption. The removal of the immunity clause from the constitution however, denotes these office holders can be tried even while in office. To some end,it makes sense and in the other way round,it could get complicated as any office holder could be tried for any thing at all. Do you think it's removal will work out? I think Gani has a say in this as well............... Gani rejects honour Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN) has rejected the honour of OFR which was published on Fri,Dec12,2008 that the Fedreral Govt has honoured him with the honour. He t...

Yardy's victory upheld.

At long last, precisely 20months after the April 2007 presidential elections, the authenticity of the polls have been upheld by the supreme court with Yar'adua and Goodluck duly elected aa president and vice-president respectively of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The judgement came last week at the supreme court of Nigeria throwing away the arguments put forward by Buhari (Rtd) and Atiku (Former Vice-president). Now the nation hopes and believes president Yardy will be able to fulfill his campaign promises getting free of the electoral troubles.

Aftermath of the Jos crisis

This is what happened in a particular office in the country after the uproar of violence in Jos few days back. If na u,"se u go gree"? (If it were you, would you accept)

As time goes by............

It isn't funny as most times we do say that time flies, it is pertinent to say however that it is we humans that run faster than God, it looks to us that times runs or flies as we put it but in utmost sincerity it is at its usual just that some changes in the weather condition helps our beliefs. Time and again,i've heard the comment "the 24hrs of a day are not enough for me" ,but what do we do while the time ticks away. T'was just like yesterday when we were shouting happy new year (Jan 1) and drawing out plans for the year but today it's some days to the end of 2008, a countdown . Festive is around the corner but the feel of it is already overwhelming in us as we see lightings, trees, bells of xmas, receive messages, mails and others of its coming and prepare in earnest for it and other holidays in December so it doesn't catch up with us unaware. A point to tell us that we have minus a day to spend as each day passes by.

Making Life Miserable for Ribadu

After his demotion from the rank of Assistant Inspector General (AIG) to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), the former Chairman of EFCC, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu was sent to Nigerian Institute of Policy & Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Karu all the while, the mystery surrounding his demotion and removal as the Commission board was still incomprehensible to many, despite the reasons put forward by the authorities. Unfortunately, he was not allowed together with his family entrance to the graduation ceremony after his programme on Saturday 22nd based on some useless facts of uniform he did not put on, so the case was that he will be given his certificate later together with Allen Briggs who was said to have stole a camera in China on his study tour. The denial came in a very bad shape by armed police officers. What on hell has this guy done to deserve such treatment?

Animals in Clothings

A total abuse of power was displayed by men of the force on 3rd November on Muri Okunola Str, Victoria Island, Lagos where some uniform men beat mercilessly and stripped naked a lady (Uzoma Okere) who was driving back from work for the fact that she wouldn't move out of the way for a convoy conveying Rear Admiral Harry Arogundade. He was purpotedly said not to have known what was going on at first but after realizing what his boys had done went bluffing rather than condeming them that the lady should thank her God she survived the beating as reported by the news. That shows a sign of gross irresponsibility and abuse of office geared towards humiliating civilians despite the reign isn't a military. This is a demonstration of craziness in our so called Democracy regime. The situation is taking shape i learnt and i hope it will yield a favourable outcome. http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-134234 : the video of the scenario.

Farmished man

A man on errand to a fast-food outlet was told to wait for a while for his order, his tummy had started singing 9ice's 'gongo-aso' and realising he had just a little amount on him browsed through the menu chart dropping down from on top of the counter and demanded for the cheapest item on it, give me "meal pack" he shouted, at the top of his voice. Everyone on the queue couldn't help laughing.

"OBAMA BARRACKS"

I don't want to give it a thought that somewhere right now on the earth here that someone doesn't know about Sen. Barack Obama (US President Elect). Even if not much, the mention of his name should remind one of something about him. It beat my imagination when somebody from only God knows came around wondering what the hullaballo is about Obama Barracks, everyone seems to be talking about, is it any different from all other " Barracks " around?. The craziest was that he wanted to visit the barracks .

A New Day

A bright new day it is after the rain, another day to work and fulfill part of our obligations to those we owe them to, i don't want to take it that nothing is impossible with the Almighty, despite the fact i already had a news of something very important and vital not working out the way i had envisaged but as long as he is Lord God and lives, all hopes, aspirations will not be dashed away. I'm thinking it possible and preparing to cheer to the wild world He made it what they can not make. I believe in Him and i think for sure you should too for he his worthy of being trusted to do it.

The long road to change.

At last, the campaign of several months came to an end in the early hours of today with Sen. Barack Obama announced as the winner of the 2008 US Presidential Election, a great day it was with different comments and reports from everybody as the world watched with keen interest in the results. 'America's Historic New Chapter : Tuesday, Nov 4, 2008 will go down as the day merica opened its history book turned the page and started a new chapter of change' had a report from CNN. A great one it was as it will go down memory lane in world history as a world bloc got its first African or Black American as you may want to call it. The change has come for real as it is what is needed at the moment to sustain the American economy. Looking forward to his swearing in and how he moves America towards the revolution. I love the mentality of the whites as the losing candidate McCain congratulated him accepting defeat unlike here where the next step is to file a suit against the winner. In...

Naija for life.........

So many a times, one wonders of what stuff Nigerians are made of. I've stopped seeing the bad side of things i this country, but if you eschew from certain things, people who'll make you bring you back to them'll surely surface. Why is it that so many thing go wrong in this country? The image up there depicts what to you? i wouldn't want to say the person in the image isn't a police officer cos for sure he is putting on the uniform but in all sincerity, does this person fits to be an officer. We see on TVs even if we've not been to other places how their men of the force look like. I don't want to describe what i see honestly. Will anyone convince me that this person can help in an emergency situation, i am of the believe that a thorough reformation be done cos apparently most of them look like this.

Stamford Bridge down

Image
At the weekend, Liverpool ended the much talked about Chelsea's unbeaten at Stamford Bridge with Alonso's goal bringing down the bridge. They have always been winning at home which had made them have 86 match unbeaten to their credit. Anyway it shows however that Liverpool is superior. To all true 'Blues', accept my symphathy and prepare well for your next match. As for Liverpool, 'U'll never walk alone'.

Students Versus Gov. Fashola

Some students of a particular secondary school in Lagos has filed a suit against the governor for allegedly pulling down their school despite his campaign on education, a must for every child. The children had hitherto demanded a ransom of around #500 million as damages. The case which was to be heard in Lagos High Court witnessed the absence of the gov. (BRF) despite a long-served notice to the suit and a court room filled to the brim with students, teachers, parents and some others. The students comprised of just passed-out SS3 students and others who were younger all below the age of 18 were duly represented by their parents. The demolishion took place during this year's May/June Exams (WAEC) leaving the students to having their exams and lecture taken under tree shades. Do you think they'll win the government?

Playing for Millions

A couple of weeks ago on the popular Tv show "Who wants to be a millionaire", a man made it to the hot seat after being first in arranging the right order of washing the mouth. When the host Frank Edoho called his name as the fastest, he was quick in telling him he knew he was first because the man will be a "chronic mouth-washer" because of his laughter. At the hot seat, after answering about 3 questions, he used a lifeline which made him proceed to he next question amidst laughter, he soon got a stage he never knew what the answer to the question was and he opted to call a friend who unfortunately couldn't provide him with the answer to the question within the time limit, he eventually chose the wrong option and he came back to =N=20,000. Despite the loss he couldn't help laughing out big time. I recommend the guy for a laughing competition and i bet he'll win definitely.

Independence Anniversary

Nigeria our beloved country. How yesterday it was when you gained your independence from the colonial masters but it's been 48 years now. So far the journey had been so adventurous and full of events which are to be remembered for ever while some are not wished to be thought about. But of what good is our celebration when we have strong legs but still can not stand, we have bogus eyes but fail to see, big heart yet don't feel or care, our strong teeth but can't bite nor chew. Despite these and lots more, we still are Big Brother. Of what essence is our jubilation when our leadership i s characterized by corruption, our economy stricken with abject poverty, our people suffering amidst surplus, people of age bracket fully unemployed better still under-employed. Our cries are not seen, our fear are not felt, our lives are not secured less our properties, our faith faceless rather their wealth multiplies, their riches no bound, their happiness limitless at out detriment. Everyb...

Issues at hand

The President's state of health The President's state of health has been a major news for a while now with everyone having one or two things to say. A newspaper even said while giving a news on it that some other papers have become Medical Report giving up to date information about his condition. Yar'Adua who went out of the country for medical attention says he's okay but to many, that seems rather unpalatable to their hearing, rather they prefer to pollute the environment with non-issues. Some even went as far as debating who'll succeed him in office, that is to tell you the extent to which they wish him. I'm not surprised at that since some even said it before the election that brought him into power that the former president OBJ intentionally wants him as president because he knows his health is bad and will soon pack off (dead) and that definitely is because he doesn't want to directly handover to an easterner (Jonathan). Anyway, while some are wishing...

My Rain Experience

It was exactly a week now when it rained cats and dogs like it was never going to rain another. The rain started last Monday and it continued on Tuesday. I was to run a errand for one of my boss whose office is at Victoria Island. I left my office in the rain to clarify some things at UBA where i had gone the day before after which i headed for GTB then i left for his place at Standard Chartered opposite the Galleria. When i was done with him, the rain had increased at what i can call geometric progression to when i left from my place. I couldn't stay, waiting for the rain for subside cos i never told anyone in office i was going out, so i had to get into it, i made for a bike and when eventually one will stop, it happened to be an Hausa guy. I told him Sterling Towers (Marina) and he said =N= 180, quickly i said =N= 150 and he was like how does he get there, i offered to tell him to cut road and enter into Broad Street through TBS but he said he'll make for another route, i qu...

Going home from work

Yesterday after work, we set to go home and it was free all the way until we got to Herbert Macaulay when we got stucked in this traffic, some of us who are muslims had to break our fast in the bus, not so long we got to a standstill, i hate being in traffic because i always am uncomfortable with heat and a kind of sleepy feeling and i felt like getting out of the bus with a PH Being spirit, guess you know why?. After i had recovered from a little doze, when the heat was intense and we resumed chatting, we caught a glimpse of some set of men who had gotten out of their car and turned the road to a dance hall, at first it was two of them (the driver and the one sitting beside him), it drew the attention of everybody in the traffic whose gaze could reach where they were, we started laughing at them not even knowing what song they were playing, the next thing one of them just went down ( komole ) and soon the other one at the back seat got out as well and joined in the " Traffic Dan...

Another month gone,a better one here.

The month of August has come and gone.It had some things i would not like to forget like "Mad at me", something i ought to have blogged about. It was when my uncle who stays on my street gave birth, mid August to be precise, i came back from work that night tired when i was told the wife was delivered of their 3rd child (3rd girl) and when i asked if she's back at home, my sis told me she had no idea, after prayer, i went to rest and that was how i slept off. I was woken by noise from the living room and when i got in, i just greeted mum, dad and the father of the new baby still amidst sleep, later my uncle asked me if i had been told about her wife, and when i said yes, that was when trouble started with mum and dad saying after i had been told, shouldn't i have gone to see her, even after my uncle had left they still kept on nagging at me, not wanting to hear my own side and guess what all through the scolding i didn't say a word till i slept off cos all they we...

Compliation of Recent Issues

The man with 86 wives . Don't even know what to say about this since i heard of it,but i think he knows best why he married that whole lot and have that much of children. After all he's an Islamic scholar or prophet as i heard him (Alh. Bello) to be and he ought to know what best the Holy book says on this issue, but he believes since he knows the interpretation of that chapter and verse that talks about it,he hasn't contravened its provision,i wonder how his house will look like, think he had better create a state of his own. Funny enough he's not complaining, the wives are not neither are the children, think he should be left alone to just be,if he actually chooses 4 out of the 86 women he calls wives, where would the others go and who wants to marry them, killing him wouldn't solve any problem as it can't even reduce the wives neither can it reduce that of the army of children he had been able to produce.Guess his name should be in the Guinness World Book of Records...

See Trouble

Image
The issue of "bear-bear" (beard) is one great issue amongst guyz,it comes in different styles, patterns and or shapes. When i was in secondary school,i remembered when my principal (a retired soldier) Col. Bisuga raised the issue of guyz with beards. He was against the fact that young boys who grow beards leave it,rather he prefer them shave it off.Thank God say we be small boys wey never even grow one strand of hair. It was war against "bear-bear" and what he did was go round classes most especially SS 3,to give guyz unwarranted shave.Naturally some of this guys were gifted,i mean (hairy) while others grow it with the help of Methylated spirit and they complain "if i shave,it grows the more".Anyway i have this friend who dey always jealous me and tell me when i got to higher institution that i'm lucky not having the beards,he was tired of the wahala of shaving every 3 days. I laughed my head off on Saturday when i was passed by a street in my area and i...

Madness,Craziness or What?

The latest from South Africa has it that a man had just been sentenced. His offence was that he had given his lion a field day by giving it one of his workers. The man in question was said to be just released from prison after spending 3 years for an offence of a life term sentence.Never say i told you this.

Babysitter

It was 6th of August and my boss called out to me -Dayo,i answered ma and she said "i will be having a guest today who'll be coming with her kids.what you'll help me do is get them something to eat when they come",i said okay ma.The next thing was "i'll be going out with her i.e her guest and what you'll do is sit with the children at the canteen while we're away",immediately i said that can't be possible when staff will be there eating, she said "it's possible afterall the kids will also be eating".I had no cause to argue with her further when i had suggested a waiting room but she refused saying the canteen is okay since they (the kids) can watch the TV set. Eventually,my boss went to the canteen to reserve some food for her guests after we had debated so long on what to get for them most especially the kids, pointing out they are from "Jand"-efizzy you know.On the long-run,they eventually arrived and my boss was holla...

Salary Review

Some days back,it was aired in the news that a change will be effected on the remuneration of the Legislative arm of government. This immediately became a concern for me as the proposed increment is not justifiable in the foregoing of the country. The just called off strike of the NUT is a typical scenario, the strike though very unhealthy for students, most especially ones of public schools. We all know why these teachers embarked on the strike that lasted 5 weeks, salary upgrade of course. These are the set of people who in the actual sense of it needs a review. Moreover, the teachers as we know are a force to be reckoned with in any society as you can not be where you are without passing through a teacher.Gone were the days when the popular saying "The reward of teachers are in heaven" operates, these days it is argued that their reward begins here on earth. However, some points which against that of the legislators range from the fact that there used to be a time when some legisla...

Debasement

So many a time,i have wondered how employees cope with the situation they find themselves in with their employers, bearing in mind that these employees make up the lump sum of amount declared in the accounts of the employers at the end of their financial year. To this end,i am of the believe that good returns should be the lot of these employees, but unfortunately the reverse seem to be the case in most situation. This is because they've virtually got no choice. It isn't surprising, though it beats my imagination to see some employees of some companies being conveyed to and fro work in a truck or lorry, worst still a container and it is most particular about construction companies and some few other. This however is because they don't refer to them as workers rather as labourers as they often are refered to.You know as i do that these companies can afford the best buses to convey their workers considering the amount of money they make and to make situation worst they are awarded...
